The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization approved new amendments to the MARPOL Convention, aimed at reducing ship emissions. Representatives from the Estonian Maritime Administration also participate in the work of the MEPC. Estonia has been a member of the IMO since 31 January 1992.

The objective of the draft amendments is to reduce the carbon intensity of ships by 40% by the year 2030. The amendments include the technical and operational carbon intensity reduction requirements.

A more detailed overview is given in an article on the IMO website.
