Due to the emergency situation declared in Estonia, the physical attendance in training courses is not possible for seafarers. Thus, the Maritime Administration has sent a circular letter to local maritime educational and training institutions entitling them to assess competence of crew members by using e-learning curricula approved by the Estonian Maritime Administration. This is a temporary procedure valid until the end of the emergency situation.  Certificates issued on the basis of e-learning curricula are valid up to 6 months.

As for medical certification, our position is that seafarers have to follow Regulation I/9 of the medical standards of the STCW which provides for extending the validity period for an extra 3 months.
